A selecção angolana de futebol não vai participar na competição, por motivos financeiros. O torneio, agendado para 25 deste mês a oito de Junho, em Durban, na África do Sul, foi conquistado três vezes por Angola. A última vez remonta a 2004.
Federação Angolana de Futebol vai canalizar as "poucas verbas existentes" para a preparação da presença do país na Taça das Nações Africanas.
Angola, como a Guiné-Bissau, apuraram-se para a prova que se realiza, no Egipto, de 21 de Junho a 19 de Julho. Angola integra o Grupo E, tendo como adversários Tunísia, Mali e Mauritânia, enquanto a Guiné-Bissau partilha o F com Camarões, Gana e Benin.
As duas selecções lusófonas participam na CAN de olhos postos no próximo Mundial de Futebol. Pretendem estar entre as cinco representações africanas presentes no maior evento futebolístico planetário, marcado para 2022.
A Taça COSAFA começou a realizar-se em 1994, após a queda do regime segregacionista. A competição decorre todos os anos e está aberta a equipas nacionais dos países da África Austral.
