O relatório sobre o desenvolvimento humano publicado pelo Programa das Nações Unidas para o Desenvolvimento coloca os países africanos de expressão portuguesa entre os piores. A situação mais dramática vive-se em Moçambique e na Guiné-Bissau que ficam na 180.ª e 178.ª posições, respetivamente, entre os 189 países analisados.
"Por todos os países há muitas pessoas que têm fracas perspectivas de um futuro melhor. Sem esperança, propósito ou dignidade, elas olham, à margem da sociedade, para aqueles que conseguem uma prosperidade cada vez maior. Muitos escaparam da pobreza extrema em todo o mundo, mas são muito mais os que não têm a oportunidade de controlar a sua vidas. Muitas vezes o género, a etnia ou a riqueza familiar ainda determinam o lugar de uma pessoa na sociedade", lê-se no documento.
Neste índice Angola é o terceiro país pior colocado entre os da Lusofonia, ocupando o 149.º posto. A Guiné Equatorial fica em 144.º, São Tomé e Príncipe em 137.º, Cabo Verde em 126.º.
Os países de expressão portuguesa que estão acima da fasquia dos 100 piores são Portugal, que ocupa a 40.ª posição e o Brasil que está na 79.ª.
Este estudo aborda as desigualdades em termos de orçamento familiar, ou seja a desigualdade económica, mas também outros "elementos-chave do desenvolvimento humano, como saúde, educação, dignidade e Direitos Humanos".
